Dr. Ajay Sonkar, a scientist of the country’s pearl aquaculture sector, has said that in Japan, the country that has a monopoly in pearl production, it takes more than three years for a pearl to be formed. But in India, in the clean, calm and diverse marine climate of Andaman, a pearl is formed in just six months to one year. The largest number of pearls is found in India’s Andaman.
Dr. Ajay Sonkar, a scientist in the pearl aquaculture sector, further said that the sea water of Japan is very cold and due to changes in the sea climate and construction in the past years, the sea water has become very polluted. A large number of oysters are dying in the sea there, due to which the pearl production there is not very good. But the pearls of India are considered to be very good.

Let us tell you that there are creatures of the snail species in the sea, in whose stomach pearls are formed. Actually, snails live in a very strong shell for their protection and this shell is called oyster. When one or two oysters out of thousands get a hole in their shell, then sand particles enter inside it. In such a situation, a layer of a special kind of substance starts forming on the sand particles inside the oyster. This special substance is called calcium carbonate and it keeps on being produced inside that organism. But with time, it becomes like a shiny round shaped stone of white color, which is called a pearl.
